The Kendrick Foundation, Inc.

The Kendrick Foundation, Inc. awarded Burkhart Creek $50,000. These funds helped develop the “hill trails” and provided additional leverage for the early work on the RTP trails.
Burkhart Creek Park Trail
- Aug. 2008 - Department of Natural Resources (DNR): $150,000
In alignment with Gov. Mitch Daniels' "Hoosiers on the Move" trails initiative, the DNR requested monies to fund several trails throughout the state of Indiana for multi-use local trail projects. The goal is to increase recreational trail opportunities "close to home," in line with the governor's 10-year plan, which calls for every Hoosier to be within 15 minutes of a trail. This project will develop approximately 2 miles of stone and asphalt trail and trailhead at Burkhart Creek Park. The RTP grant was approved in 2008 and received the final signature (state attorney general) in February 2009.
- Indiana Department of Natural Resources
Indiana Department of Natural Resources donated 83 acre parcel of land with deed restrictions that essentially require the property to be used as a natural, low impact park for county residents. The park includes shelter houses, a parking area, and hiking trails.
